What is Bitcoin?

Is it a currency? I mean it is a system of money, it is a store of value and it can be exchanged and traded. But its not legal tender and it is not controlled by a Government. So is Bitcoin a Commodity? Is Bitcoin like Gold? Gold is a commodity that can be used as money. So is Bitcoin a Commodity? Well no, its not used in the Production process. So then what is it?
